Practical notes
- Getting thereCairo International sits in Heliopolis, about 15 km northeast of the city's business district. Visas on arrival are sold at kiosks before immigration for 30 US dollars, cash only; an e-visa bought ahead avoids the kiosk.
- Getting aroundWhite taxis run on digital meters, a shuttle links the terminals to the airport bus terminal, and ride-hailing such as Uber works in Cairo. Ride-hailing needs mobile data from the kerb.
- PayingYou can bring up to 5,000 Egyptian pounds into Egypt. Visa-on-arrival kiosks take US dollars in cash.
- When to goCairo is mild in winter, with average highs of 19 °C in January, and hot from June to August, at 35 °C. Rain is rare: about 25 mm a year.
Arrival, step by step
Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi before you fly, and keep the line switched off. After landing, turn off airplane mode, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line only. Give the phone a minute to find the network. If it does not connect, the not connecting guide goes through the checks in order.
