Luxor eSIM: online on both banks of the Nile

Luxor spreads across both banks of the Nile. The eSIM keeps maps and messages working from the east bank temples to the west bank.

The short answer

An eSIM installed at home works in Luxor once you switch the line on and turn on data roaming for it. Luxor sits on both banks of the Nile, about 670 km from Cairo and 220 km north of Aswan, with its own international airport and trains to Cairo and Aswan.

Where the signal holds

  • 4G and 5G

    Egypt's four networks

Vodafone, Orange, e& and WE all run 4G, and all four launched 5G in June 2025.

  • Not measured

    The West Bank tombs

We have not measured signal in the Valley of the Kings or inside the tombs. Download tickets and maps before you cross.

  • Data roaming on

    Your eSIM

It roams on an Egyptian partner network and shows that network's name. Turn data roaming on for the eSIM line.

Practical notes

  1. Getting thereLuxor International Airport serves the city, and trains run north to Cairo and south to Aswan, including a sleeper train, from a station about 400 m from Luxor Temple.
  2. Getting aroundA public ferry crosses the Nile from a landing opposite Luxor Temple, and a bridge a few kilometres upstream joins the east and west banks by road.
  3. PayingYou can bring up to 5,000 Egyptian pounds into Egypt. Keep small notes for the ferry and small purchases.
  4. When to goJanuary averages 23 °C by day and 7 °C at night; June to August average 41 °C highs. Luxor gets about 8 mm of rain a year.

Before you go

Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi and keep the line switched off until you land. Download offline maps and your tickets while you still have Wi-Fi, in case a site has no signal. On arrival, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line only.
