Data roaming on an Egypt eSIM: on for the eSIM, off at home

  • On for the eSIM
  • Off at home
  • Prepaid: no extra charges

The short answer

Turn data roaming on for the eSIM line and off for your home line. The Egypt plans on this site are Africa regional plans that roam on an Egyptian partner network, so without data roaming they do not connect. They are prepaid, so roaming cannot add charges.

Why roaming is on

An Africa regional plan connects to a partner network in Egypt as a visitor, which is roaming by definition. Your phone shows the partner network’s name once it connects.

Where the switches are

On an iPhone: Settings, Cellular, tap the eSIM line, then Data Roaming. On Android: the SIM settings, the eSIM, then Roaming. Do the same on your home line, and switch it off there.

If it fails

If the eSIM shows signal but no data, check that data roaming is on for the eSIM line and that the eSIM line is chosen for mobile data. Then follow not connecting.
