The short answer

Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi, before you fly, within 30 days of buying it. Scan the QR code from your order page, name the line, and keep it switched off until you land. Do not delete the eSIM once added: a QR code can usually be installed only once.

Before you scan

Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked; the phone check tells you how to find out. Connect to Wi-Fi: the phone downloads the eSIM from the internet, and Apple asks for Wi-Fi or a hotspot while it does.

Scan the QR code

Open your order page on another screen, or print the QR code. On an iPhone, go to Settings, Cellular, Add eSIM, and scan. On Android, go to the SIM settings (Connections, SIM manager on Samsung; Network & internet, SIMs on Pixel) and add an eSIM. If the camera will not scan, enter the details by hand from the order page.

After it is added

Give the line a name you will recognise, such as Egypt. Keep it switched off until you land, so nothing happens before the trip. Do not delete it: a QR code can usually be installed only once. On landing, follow switch it on after landing.

If it fails

If the QR code will not scan or the install stops, stay on Wi-Fi and try once more. If it still fails, write to the store’s support with your order page link and your phone model, before you try again.
