Egypt's railway, founded in 1854, runs from Alexandria and Cairo south to Luxor and Aswan. Air-conditioned trains have first and second class, and a sleeper train runs daily in both directions between Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor and Aswan. Most lines start at Ramses Station in Cairo.
